Kukje Gallery is pleased to present work by the internationally acclaimed designer Joris Laarman. This will be the first solo exhibition of the designer in Korea, comprised of his most recent works starting from 2006. Widely known for his exquisite furniture designs such as the Bone Chair and Starlings table, Laarman's work has been acknowledged as heralding bold new trends in design and fabrication. Laarman's designs embrace both innovation and tradition; his design strategy relies heavily on constant experimentation with new technology while at the same time retaining a keen sense of detail and craftsmanship.
Joris Laarman was born in the Netherlands in 1979, and graduated cum laude from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2003. His work has been exhibited internationally and can be found in major collections worldwide including the Centre Pompidou, Paris, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam. He has also received numerous awards including Wallpaper's "Young Designer of the Year" in 2004 and most recently, "Innovator of the Year" by the Wall Street Journal in 2011. Laarman currently lives and works in the Netherlands.
