국제갤러리의 구본창, 이수경 작가는 샌프란시스코 국제공항(SFO)에서 개최되는 <도자에 마음을 담다 Dual Natures in Ceramics: Eight Contemporary Artists from Korea>특별 전시에 참여한다. 샌프란시스코 국제공항 제 3터미널에서 선보이는 이번 전시에는 구본창, 이수경 작가를 포함 8명 작가들의 작품 75점이 소개된다. 한국 도자에 담겨 있는 오랜 전통과 교차하는 현대적 미감을 보여주고자 기획된 이번 전시에서 구본창 작가는 백자 사진 작품과 새롭게 제작한 백자 영상 작품을 전시하며, 이수경 작가는 도자 제작과정에서 생성된 파편들을 사용한 혁신적인 조각 작업들을 통해 전통적인 도자기의 개념을 작가만의 방식으로 해석하여 보여준다. 샌프란시스코 국제공항 제 3터미널을 통과하는 사람들이 관람할 수 있는 본 전시는 내년 2월 22일까지 계속된다.


The exhibition features 75 stunning contemporary artworks created by some of Korea’s most respected artists. Co-organized by SFO Museum and the Asian Art Museum, Dual Natures in Ceramics: Eight Contemporary Artists from Korea explores the meaning and beauty of Korean ceramics in the 21st-century. While Korean ceramic art is rooted in tradition, the artists explore new concepts of interpretation, creating a dialogue between contemporary and traditional.

Koo Bohnchang and Yeesookyung exemplify a new way of interpreting traditional Korean ceramics. Through photographs and video art (newly created for this exhibition), Koo reveals the organic qualities of Korean ceramics that have been overlooked or disregarded by our bare eyes. Yee utilizes and renders the superfluous aspect in ceramic production. Using abandoned ceramic shards, she translates the original concepts of ceramics into more innovative sculptural works that sometimes puzzle the viewers about the concept of ceramics as art in the twenty-first century.

The exhibition is located post-security and is only accessible to passengers ticketed for travel through San Francisco International Airport's Terminal 3. There is no charge to view the exhibition.
