Julian Opie participates in Synthetic Landscapes, an exhibition curated by the arts organization Meadow Arts at two different locations—Weston Park and Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery, England—from June 4 to September 3 and June 24 to September 3, respectively. At Weston Park, Opie displays City? (2004), in which a scaled down and summarized version of a block of high-rise buildings stands as an anti-landscape. Alternatively, at Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery, Opie will exhibit the animation Sheep in Landscape (2017), a deceptively simple, much stylized landscape that depicts a flock of sheep grazing on the hills. The two venues will explore two radically different visions of manmade landscapes. Weston Park will explore the sculpted parkland of Lancelot Brown, an English landscape architect, created as a ‘pleasure ground’ for the enjoyment of a land-rich minority. At the opposing end of this view, in Shrewsbury the exhibition will explore the appropriation of landscape during the birth of the Industrial Revolution and afterwards.

국제갤러리의 줄리안 오피는 미술기획단체 Meadow Arts의 기획 하에 웨스턴 파크(Weston Park)와 슈루즈버리 박물관과 미술관(Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery)에서 개최하는 그룹전 에 참여한다. 2017년 6월 4일부터 9월 3일까지 열리는 웨스턴 파크 전시에서 오피는 영국의 조경사 란슬로트 브라운(Lancelot Brown)이 소수의 상류층을 위해 설계한 유원지를 탐구하며, 축소된 고층 빌딩들을 모아 반-풍경화를 형상화한 (2004)를 선보인다. 2017년 6월 24일부터 9월 3일까지 개최될 슈루즈버리 박물관과 미술관 전시에서는 반대로 산업혁명과 그 이후에 인간에 의해 파괴된 자연풍경을 되돌아 보며 박물관과 미술관에서는 언덕에서 방목하는 양떼를 담아낸 애니메이션 (2017)를 통해 단순하고 간소화한 풍경화를 선보일 예정이다. 두 전시기관에서는 각자 현저히 다른 인공 풍경의 비전을 선보인다.
