Elmgreen & Dragset have created two new installations titled Point of View for Kistefos sculpture park and museum in Jevnaker, Norway, on view from September 18, 2019. Known for their site-specific installations, Elmgreen & Dragset have been working on undermining the rigid system and cultural frameworks that are embedded in the society we live in. This display is a continuation of the artist duo’s survey navigating the boundaries between individualism versus the collective and art versus institutions within the setting of a museum.

Point of View – Part 1 is a sculpture installed at the entrance of the Kistefos sculpture park, depicting a lonely white male figure leaning against a free-standing fragment of a wall and peeking into the park through a hole in the wall, this work challenges the conventions of the art institution as a cultural and social setting. As viewers walk through the park, a sculpture of the same male figure titled Point of View – Part 2 appears, this time peering directly into The Twist gallery through a glass window. The glass window acts as a device with which the audience looks onto the figure and vice versa, at the same time reinforcing the boundary between the audience and the lone man, further marginalizing the latter. Point of View – Parts 1&2 will be permanently displayed at Kistefos sculpture park and museum with the artist duo’s other works previously installed there, titled Forgotten Babies #2 and Warm Regards.
