The contemporary artist MeeNa Park participates in the group exhibition Diving into the Color, held at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA), Gwacheon, Korea, from July 22, 2020. The largest children’s exhibition to be held at the museum’s Gwacheon branch since its opening in 1986, the presentation includes works by six artists including MeeNa Park, Kim Yongkwan, Kim Jin Song, Park Kiwon, Back Inkyo, and Jo Sook Jin, presenting vibrant, colorful spaces that aim to awaken the senses and imagination of visiting children. MeeNa Park, who has challenged stereotypical norms by collecting and researching different compositions of color according to her own standards, will be showcasing an installation and a series of approximately 180 paintings as part of the exhibition.

The exhibition, which takes place across an area of 2,645㎡ at the Circular Gallery on the first floor, is comprised of three sections titled ‘Exhibition Zone,’ ‘Activity Zone,’ and ‘Learning Zone.’ Displayed on the outer walls of the gallery is Park’s mural titled 14 Shades of Monochrome and Green, Blue, Red and Black Light (2020), showcasing 14 shades of monochrome along with green, blue, red, and black light in the shape of a rectangular cube. The work, which utilizes various color theories involving color, monochrome, brightness, and color adaptation, provides a hands-on experience with color characteristics and theories for children. Further installed on the walls are Coloring Drawings (2020) and 12 Colors (2020), a vast collection of approximately 180 drawings that provide a multisensory experience with color. Alongside these physically engaging works of art, the Activity Zone offers a program titled “Moving Color! Breathing Sculpture!” where visitors can create works of their own, while the Learning Zone provides an education program titled “Open Yard.” The museum will also be offering accessible tour programs for children with disabilities including vision impairment and hearing loss. The exhibition, which provides an opportunity to engage with and discover the joy of contemporary art within a colorfully curated environment, runs through February 28, 2021.
